Year 10 Planetarium Excursion

100_0263.JPG

On Wednesday 7th May, the Year 10 Space and Astronomy students had an excursion to the UniSA Mawson Lakes Campus where they engaged in a STEM activity to learn more about how we know what we know about the stars and our universe, which included activities like calculating how high they could jump on Mars, how we use parallax to determine distance to stars and light spectrum to tell what they are made of.  They then had a presentation in the planetarium about constellations and how the stories from the ancient Babylonians and Mesopotamians were adapted and adopted by Greeks and Romans and made their way to us today and how the constellations are now officially recognised.  They also learnt about how First Nations people saw patterns and represented their stories in the stars and used the stars to identify and predict the seasons and associated land care and interactions that they would use.
